Defoliation of a crop gives two options - Cut and Carry or Graze in-situ. Graze in-situ indicates the crop was grazed in situ by livestock and Cut and Carry indicates that the crop was cut and then fed out elsewhere on the farm during the year or exported from the farm.
Defoliation's may be spread over several months, add addition months as required. All defoliation's must be specified. There are no default values.
To record a defoliation, click the cell of the month the defoliation occurs:
A dialog will open into which information can be entered specifying whether or not the crop was grazed in situ or cut and carried.
Graze in-situ
When animals graze crops, this is called a "Grazed in-situ" defoliation method.
When you specify a crop to be grazed in situ you will need to also specify the animal source that grazes the crop, the number of months the animals graze the crop, and the number of hours the crop is grazed for each day.
If the Animal source is usually Farm stock, however it can also be Non-farm animals. If it is Farm stock you must specify the percentage of crop eaten by each animal type or enterprise. It can be eaten 100% by one enterprise or by more than one enterprise but the total percentage distribution must always add up to 100% e.g. 50% by dairy and 50% by sheep (as below) or 80% by dairy and 20% by sheep.
Note: You can only specify which enterprise as a whole grazes a crop, you cannot specify a certain stock class within an enterprise to graze.
Cut and Carry
If the method of defoliation is Cut and Carry, then you will need to speciify the destination of the crop and the Number of of months defoliating.
OverseerFM currently supports cut and carrying a crop each month to only one destination (e.g. Feed pads, On pastoral blocks and Exported). If cutting and carrying to more than one destination, choose the destination to which most of the crop was sent.
