An RSU or Revised Stock Unit is a means of calculation stock number equivalents between species and age groups on the basis of the feed consumed, so they can be compared. 1 RSU is defined as an animal with an intake of 6000 megajoules of metabolizable energy per year (the annual energy requirement of a mature ewe to raise a single lamb to weaning). Therefore, a mature aged ewe is approximately 1 RSU, while a mature aged cow is approximately 6 RSU.
