We released an update to OverseerFM on 21st December 2022.
OverseerFM model release 6.5.0 now models nitrogen uptake below 600 mm by deeper rooting plants when there is a nitrogen deficit above 600 mm.
Prior to this update OverseerFM assumed that crops and pasture only took nitrogen from the top 600 mm of soil. While this assumption was appropriate for the majority of modelled scenarios in OverseerFM, it did not account for the few scenarios where deeper-rooted plants would exhibit nitrogen uptake below 600 mm.
This release sees a model update, developed together with Plant & Food Research (Dr Hamish Brown) which allows for the appropriate modelling of nitrogen uptake (and resulting reduced nitrogen leaching) that occurs below 600 mm due to deeper-rooted plants (Figure 1).
