Why is my N loss number different from the N loss to root zone in my nutrient budget?

Sometimes you can find that the N loss number for an analysis is different from the "N loss to root zone" in the nutrient budget. For example:

Quite often the key reason for this is the inclusion of wetlands in the analysis - the N leached from the root zone is prior to removal of any nutrients by a wetland - e.g.
