Adding irrigation is a change in management to the farm system which can be represented in OverseerFM.
Irrigating pasture typically increases dry matter (DM) production and so allows more animals to graze the same area of pasture or for animals to achieve heavier weights or increased milk production.
The way the Overseer science model works is that it estimates pasture DM production based on the metabolizable energy (ME) requirements of grazing (or cut and carry fed) animals on farm less the ME supplied as crops and/or supplements. This is determined by animal management and production information that the user enters.
So, by entering the details of the increased milk production, crop yield or live weight gain, the increased pasture production that typically occurs with irrigated systems will be seen in the analysis results and pasture / crop tab.
