The irrigation screen shows the irrigation systems for the farm. Each irrigation system may be applied to multiple blocks with different application methods. The irrigated area can be drawn, and the system will determine the percentage of the block that is irrigated by that irrigation system. If the model has run the amount applied in mm is shown for each block and month. If the irrigation system is not drawn the percentage of the block that was irrigated can be determined.
Irrigation systems summary
The green box at the top of this screen shows a list of irrigation systems for the farm. Each system has an area covered. For pasture blocks that have fodder crops, the area irrigated has been adjusted to remove the fodder block area. An irrigation icon will be displayed in any month that the system has applied any water to any block. The irrigation system can be edited from here by selecting the name of the irrigation system. The irrigation system can be deleted for here also.
No more than two irrigation systems can be used on one block. Two systems can cover under 100% of the block and the remaining percentage of the block is not irrigated.
Drawn irrigation systems
When non-contiguous blocks were introduced, we needed to change the way that your irrigation is described. A non-contiguous block is where areas of land on a farm are managed in a similar manner but are geographically separated. To make it easier to model these we made it possible to create a block on your farm comprised of up to five smaller areas, that don't share a common boundary. Therefore multiple areas of land can be drawn on the map for a single block. Because of this each irrigation system may be applied to multiple non-contiguous blocks with different application methods. The irrigated area can be drawn, and the system will determine the percentage of the block that is irrigated by that irrigation system.
To create or change your irrigation system, click on the Irrigation tab and +Add Irrigation system.
When adding you irrigation system there is the ability to draw when the irrigation system applies water. Click on the "Draw Irrigation System" button within the farm map section. This section will not appear if none of your blocks are drawn.
Select your drawing tool – either circle or polygon. The hand icon allow you to drag the map around or edit your already drawn polygons. You are now able to draw multiple polygons for each irrigation system across different blocks. Note: If you cannot see the drawing tools select F5.
Draw the irrigation area. You can draw halt pivots, by clicking on ‘Convert selected circle to polygon’. You can draw multiple polygons
While you are drawing, the "Blocks irrigated by this system" section below is being populated with the blocks that the drawn system is covering and the percentage of the blocks area that is getting irrigated. When drawing an irrigation system the percentage of the blocks covered cannot be edited.
Irrigated areas cannot overlap other irrigated areas when drawing on the map - be it from the same irrigation system or another system.
Irrigated areas must cover at least 5% of a blocks area.
Non drawn irrigation systems
If an irrigation is not drawn the way to add blocks that irrigated by this system is to add irrigation activities. Once irrigation activities are entered the "Blocks irrigated by this system" section is populated with the blocks that are irrigated within the activities.
The percentage of the block that is irrigated can be adjusted for not drawn irrigation systems within the "Blocks irrigated by this system" section. These percentages can only be adjusted at 5% intervals.
Once you have either drawn or not drawn your system you will need to enter the irrigation activities by selecting the +Add irrigation activity. Will will have the ability to add any of the blocks to the activity (application) that have been covered by drawn irrigation system.
Every block that has been covered by the drawn irrigation system must have at least one irrigation activity applied to it.
Once the activity has been entered the time of year must selected for that activity. This is done by selecting at least one of the months within the activity.
Frost protection activities can only be applied to fruit blocks.
