The climate tab shows the climate details for each block - average temp, average rainfall, annual PET entered when the block was created and is the place to add snowfall.
Climate
The blocks location is determined when drawing a block when adding or editing a blocks drawing on the blocks tab. The climate (average annual temperature, rainfall and PET) is based on a NIWA 30 year dataset for the block's location. The climate does not represent the climate for a particular year. In this way the model can compare the effect of changes in the farm management over time rather than changes in the weather.
The climate tab displays the climate that has been identified for each block - there is no ability to enter or edit a blocks climate manually.
If a file has been uploaded from the legacy OVERSEER software to create an analysis the climate that is represented in the file for each block will be uploaded and stored against the block. If the blocks location is subsequently drawn on the map the blocks climate that was stored against the block from the file upload will be overridden by the climate based on the location drawn.
Snowfall
If snowfall occurs on the farm you can enter it on the climate tab. Snowfall can only be entered on pastoral blocks. OverseerFM assumes that all snow melts in the month that it falls and that snow/ice cover does not affect runoff from subsequent rainfall events.
Snowfall can be applied to multiple blocks that have the same snowfall depth and type (ie light, average or heavy). If there is a difference in snowfall for some blocks you will need to enter those separately by adding another snowfall event by selecting the add snowfall button.
When snowfall is deleted at the block level on the climate screen, all blocks that were within the snowfall event will also have their snowfall deleted.
