Years in pasture is assessing the total number of years the block has been in pasture 3-12 years prior to the reporting year. This is important because of the increased accumulation of organic matter that occurs under pasture rotations. 0 years indicates a continuous cropping regime, 10 indicates perennial pasture with no cropping during the period.
Ryegrass and white clover seed crops that are in the second or subsequent years should be counted as pasture. The order of the rotation over the 3-12 years prior to the reporting year is not important. Thus 5 years in pasture + 5 years cropping or 5 years cropping + 5 years in pasture or 3 years cropping, 2 years pasture, 2 years cropping and 3 years in pasture all have a value if 5.
